Dermaplaning is an advanced manual exfoliation technique that uses a sterile surgical scalpel held at an angle to gently remove dead surface skin cells and the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) on your face. Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker or darker? No. This is the most persistent dermaplaning myth and it is simply not true. Vellus hair grows back exactly as it was, fine and soft. The myth comes from the blunt tip a cut hair has versus a tapered uncut tip, which can feel slightly coarser temporarily, but it does not change the hair’s color, thickness, or rate of growth.

What to expect during and after

• It is painless and relaxing; most people compare it to a light scratching sensation.
• There is essentially no downtime, though skin can be slightly pink and more sun-sensitive for a day or two.
• Wear SPF afterward, always, since fresh skin is more vulnerable to UV.

Who should skip it
